Sustainable and Modern Farmhouse

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s modern farmhouse is a perfect example of a sustainable farmhouse which utilises solar energy to produce energy for the whole house. Architect Howard Backen and interior designer Vicky Charles have made this contemporary farmhouse by combining vernacular forms and rustic materials to make the flooring, furniture and ceilings.

As avid nature lovers, Kutcher and Kunis have ensured that the dining room has a nature’s touch too. The dining table has a partner apart from the chairs, and that is a beautiful plant. This plant, which is kept in a glass vase, gives off a positive aura in the dining room.

Charles has ensured that the magnificent living area of this exquisite farmhouse looks modern and eco-friendly. The high ceilings and large expanse of windows in the living area offer the perfect space to give it a nature-friendly look. The 10-foot-long crystal chandelier is installed in this area, which gives this sustainable look a traditional yet contemporary touch. There is also a fireplace in the living area to warm up during cold nights.

Delightful Architecture of Contemporary Farmhouse

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher began to assemble independent Pinterest boards five years before they planned to build their L.A. farmhouse. When they looked at each other’s boards, they realised that most images were of houses designed by the well-known architect Howard Backen of Backen & Gillam Architects.

Backen made sure to use reclaimed wood, board-form concrete and glass to build this modern farmhouse. He appreciated the dedication of Kunis and Kutcher, who discussed almost everything in detail with him. The chief architect Backen, his associate Stephanie Gerwin and their entire team got full support from the couple during the construction process. Rustic materials used in the flooring, ceiling and furniture make this house of Kunis and Kutcher a perfect amalgamation of traditional and contemporary.

Breath-Taking Interiors of Sustainable Farmhouse

Breath-Taking Interiors of Sustainable Farmhouse

Vicky Charles, the interior designer, brought the elements of contemporary vision into the KuKu Farms. The refined architecture of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s farmhouse provided a springboard for Charles for interior design. While talking about the interiors of her farmhouse, Kunis praised Charles’s work. Kunis loved how Charles mixed fabrics, patterns and textures to give an aesthetically appealing look to the modern farmhouse.

Charles and her team spent months selecting the materials and colours as they wanted to build a house for the family. Mila was expecting her first child when the journey began, and over time the interior design’s focus shifted from the traditional to the modern farmhouse.

Moreover, Charles incorporated super comfortable seating and tailored tables to give a modern look to the interiors. A set of custom silver throne chairs were brought in from India, and an extravagant 10-foot-long crystal chandelier was installed in the towering entertainment pavilion. One of the silver throne chairs is placed in the primary bathroom.
