The city of Port Credit was established in 1834. The original landowners were the Mississauga Ojibwe band in the 1700s. The French found a trading spot in 1720. In 1805, Mississauga surrendered land but kept Credit River. After the war in 1812, the King promised residents protection from further land encroachment.
