The Halton Region's Rent Supplement Program assists low-income individuals and families struggling with housing. Halton Region pairs contributing landlords with suitable candidates from the Housing Access to Community Help (HATCH) queue in exchange for the landlords' commitment to provide units for the program. The initiative lowers the total rent for qualified renters by giving the landlord direct housing help at the highest subsidised housing rates. This makes housing more affordable and accessible by enabling renters to shell out a percentage of the rent according to their income from the household.
Low-income families with difficulty paying rent in Ontario's private housing market can receive urgent assistance through the Canada Ontario Housing Benefit (COHB). Regardless of where they live in Ontario, households can get subsidised housing thanks to this portable benefit. You must take the first available HATCH unit from the buildings you have chosen to live in as of January 1, 2021. You will be taken off the HATCH waitlist and will have to reapply with an additional submission date if you decline your initial subsidised housing offer.
Please contact accesshalton@halton.ca to get rid of any buildings you have picked that you would not be willing to relocate into if given the opportunity. Note that correspondence about HATCH must be sent in writing.
