French colonists initially set up shop in the region in the middle of the eighteenth century, giving the area its name after French traveller René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle. Individuals began moving around Turkey Creek as nothing more than a response to a mission being founded in the County of Sandwich. While LaSalle and Essex County became formally recognised as a province of Upper Canada by 1792, their histories were deeply interwoven. Citizens of LaSalle decided to designate themselves like a Town around 1991, resulting in an outcome the community quickly grew to become one of the bigger ones in Essex County, with slightly over 30,000. When you decide to visit LaSalle, you must go to the Strawberry Festival, held annually during the initial weekend in June.
