Delhi is a community in the Norfolk area, Ontario. It is a former neighbourhood and non - incorporated society near the intersection of Ontario Expressways 3 and 59. The region is recognised as the "Heart of Tobacco Country", due to the presence of tobacco factories. In addition, earlier this town was known for its logging industry. However, as per the 2018 census, the region has 4721 inhabitants.
Earlier, this village was known as Sovereign's Corner because it was built by Frederick Sovereign and his father, Frederick Zavering. It is situated in the Middleton community of Norfolk. Further, due to some genealogical research records, Frederick’s father, who was born in Germany, came to this locality during the American Revolutionary War and settled permanently in the community. Prior to this, the family was staying in New Jersey. Later, during the same year, Joseph Lawson purchased land but only constructed a house in the region for some time. Further, the town was renamed Fredericksburg after Sovereign, but in 1856, its name was officially changed to Delhi.
